Choosing staple refills and upholstery tacks

Start with the code on the gun

Arrow’s 506 is a 3/8-inch T50 staple. The 215 is a 5/16-inch JT21 staple. A refill description can show several inch measurements, so confirm the leg length separately from the crown and the family.

Account for the thickest fold

A seam or corner can use up more of the leg before it reaches the board. Arrow also considers wood hardness when choosing a T50 staple. Compare these factors within the lengths your stapler accepts.

When does a tack belong on the list?

Use a tack when the attachment you intend to make calls for a hand-driven fastener. Compare shank length and head style as separate details, particularly if the head will remain visible.

What part of a staple should sit on the fabric?

The crown lies across the surface. The two legs pass through the cover and into the support underneath.

Can I infer the number of tacks in a box from its weight?
